It seems like Meizu MX 4 Ubuntu phone has replaced Android which was launched last year in China. This Ubuntu-equipped Meizu MX4 is physically identical to the Android-based Meizu MX4 released late last year.

This sleek device has 16GB internal memory and features an astounding 20.7 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and dual LED flash, plus a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. It also features a large 5.36 inch Sharp premium retina screen with scratch-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3.

Ubuntu is a popular name as a Linux distro which releases both Desktop and server editions. Recently it has emerged as a new smartphone OS and it stands to challenge Android. iOS and other relative smartphone OS in the market.

This Meizu MX4 of course is not the first Ubuntu phone in the market introduced lately. BQ Aquarius 4.5 and BQ Aquarius 5 are the earlier Ubuntu phones already available in the market.

Availability of Meizu MX4 Ubuntu phone:

This phone is not just available freely in the online or offline retail market, rather you have to get an invite to get this phone. If you’re lucky to get an invite, then you can buy this for €299.

  • Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition phones will be available for purchase on 25th of June
  • Phones will be available in Europe and by invite only accessed through an interactive origami wall on Meizu’s online site

Ubuntu has said on this invitation system, that:

“most people who go will be able to get an invite, and those that can’t will be able to the second time around,”

The invitation approach for this Meizu MX4 Ubuntu phone denotes that both Ubuntu and Meizu do not want to produce smartphones in a large number which may end-up fail to gain the momentum in the Android dominated market. Whatever be the reason for this, you just stay tuned to us and just let us know if this Mezi MX4 Ubuntu phone will be interesting than the Android version.
